1.What Is Green Tea Extract? Why Is It Everywhere?
You’ve heard of green tea – even if you don‘t drink it, you know what it is. Concentrate green tea into a powder, and the most valuable part is tea polyphenols, with EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate) as the key player. EGCG makes up most of green tea’s catechins and is the most researched one.
Green tea extract has been used in supplements for years, for a wide range of things: antioxidant support, weight management, cardiovascular health, and energy and focus. Compared to many other botanicals, green tea extract has a ton of research – hundreds of human trials. The effects aren‘t dramatic, but it’s safe, cheap, and well-studied.
Lots of people drink green tea every day. Extract is just a concentrated form – one capsule can equal several cups of tea.

2.Does It Actually Work?
The benefits come mainly from EGCG, plus a little natural caffeine.
Key effects:
Antioxidant – EGCG is a strong free-radical scavenger, more potent than vitamin C or E. Long-term use helps slow aging.
Helps burn fat – Slightly boosts metabolism and fat oxidation. Taking it before exercise increases fat burn a bit.
Blocks fat absorption – Similar to white kidney bean, but weaker. It mildly reduces how much fat you absorb from food.
Lowers blood lipids – Long-term use reduces LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, with mild benefits for blood pressure.
Energy and focus – Caffeine wakes you up; L-theanine smooths out the jitters. Together, they improve concentration.
Let’s be honest: Don‘t expect to get shredded just by taking green tea extract. A few hundred milligrams of EGCG daily, plus exercise, might help you lose an extra pound or two a month. It’s better as a long-term health tool, not a quick fix.
3.What to Look for When Buying Green Tea Extract?
The key specs are tea polyphenols and EGCG content. Common specs: tea polyphenols ≥50%, EGCG ≥25%. Higher is available but costs more.
What to check when sourcing:
EGCG content – Higher is stronger but more expensive. For general supplements, 25–50% is fine. High-purity is for pharmaceuticals or special formulas.
Caffeine content – Some people don‘t want caffeine (heart racing, trouble sleeping). We have decaffeinated versions.
Extraction solvent – Water or water-ethanol is safe. Check solvent residues.
Heavy metals – Tea leaves can accumulate heavy metals (especially lead). Must meet limits.
Batch consistency – Tea composition varies by season. Good suppliers control raw material and standardize.
We supply green tea extract with tea polyphenols ≥50%, EGCG ≥25% (higher available), and caffeine can be reduced to below 0.5%. Every batch is tested for content, heavy metals, pesticide residues, and microbes.
Typical dosage reference
| Product Type | Daily EGCG Recommendation | Notes |
| Daily antioxidant / general health | 200–400 mg | Alone or with vitamin C, CoQ10 |
| Weight management formulas | 300–500 mg | Often with Garcinia, L-carnitine, white kidney bean |
| Pre-workout fat burner | 200–400 mg | Take 30–60 minutes before exercise |
| Cardiovascular support | 200–300 mg | With fish oil, garlic, CoQ10 |
| Functional beverages | 50–150 mg | Watch total caffeine intake |
4.OEM & Wholesale Services We Offer
We supply green tea extract raw material and also do contract manufacturing. If you want to launch an antioxidant, weight management, or cardiovascular product, we can help with formulation, blending, filling, and packaging.
Common blends:
Garcinia and L-carnitine are commonly used in classic weight management formulations.
Vitamin C and CoQ10 form a strong antioxidant support combination for cellular health.
White kidney bean and mulberry leaf are often paired for post-meal glucose control and weight management support.
L-theanine is widely used to support focus and relaxation without stimulating jitters.
What we deliver:
COA for every batch, EGCG content by HPLC.
Decaffeinated version available.
Low heavy metals, low pesticide residues.
Documentation for supplement filings.

5.How’s the Market for This Stuff?
Green tea extract is one of the most mature ingredients in the global supplement market. Demand is steady – huge base, modest but consistent growth.
Regional breakdown:
North America – Found everywhere in weight management and antioxidant products.
Europe – Similarly widespread, especially in cardiovascular and metabolic health products.
AsiaPacific – Very high acceptance – people in China already know and trust tea.
Trend: Demand for decaffeinated versions is rising, because some people want to take it at night or are caffeine-sensitive. Also, microencapsulation and liposome technologies are being used to improve EGCG absorption.

7.FAQs
Q1: Is EGCG the same as tea polyphenols?
No. Tea polyphenols are a group that includes EGCG, EGC, ECG, EC, etc. EGCG is the most abundant and most active. Good products will list both total polyphenols and EGCG.
Q2: Can green tea extract help with weight loss?
Yes, but the effect is modest. Studies show it slightly increases energy expenditure and fat oxidation. With diet and exercise, you might lose an extra pound or two per month. Don‘t expect to lose weight while sitting on the couch.
Q3: How much should I take per day?
Generally 200–500 mg of EGCG per day. Decaf versions can be slightly higher. Start with a lower dose and see how you react.
Q4: Are there side effects?
Most people are fine. High doses (EGCG >800 mg/day) may cause stomach upset, nausea, and rarely, elevated liver enzymes. Taking it on an empty stomach is more irritating. People with liver conditions should be careful. Caffeine-sensitive individuals should choose decaf.
Q5: Can green tea extract damage the liver?
In very rare cases, high doses have caused liver injury in sensitive individuals. But at normal doses (EGCG ≤500 mg/day), it‘s generally safe. If you have a history of liver disease, consult a doctor first.
Q6: Do you offer decaffeinated green tea extract?
Yes. We can reduce caffeine to below 0.5% while preserving EGCG content. Good for evening use or for people sensitive to caffeine.
